teksi teksi

I took a cab to work today. A few points noted:

1. Not taken taxis for some time. I love the smell of taxis. The aroma of air con and cheap car perfume can be very alluring.

2. Reminds of my younger, more spendthrift ways, where I’d zip around in taxis everywhere and anywhere. I’m spoilt in a lazy sense.

3. Got to camp much earlier than anybody else (which is a surprise in itself). Moreover, I left the house late too.

4. Most importantly I get to talk to the taxi driver. He’s this 60 year old bloke with a tan complexion and friendly wrinkles. I get to improve my aural and oral mandarin skills. He explains to me how bad his son is and how he doesn’t bother to support his ageing dad. Old people just go on and on. But I listen and listen. This man is like the granddad I was never fortunate enough to have. In the end, I tell him not to worry. The taxi fare is $7 but I insist he take $10. It’s really not about the money. It’s about the fact that children need to take care of their parents. We practice filial piety. And this, dear readers, is taught and documented in the Bible too. As a Christian, I don’t worship ancestors per say, but I respect my Dad and Mum and so on. I pray I won’t be a son that despises his parents’ age and bites the hand that feeds. That’s just being a bastard.

That said, being pleasantly surprised in the morning by someone you like puts you in an accommodating mood. I didn’t yell at work nor act irrationally.

Imma just grinning from ear to ear, despite staring at the evil pile of assignments.
