People always ask me why wars happen, why this and that happens to so and so a person and so on. For example, why is it that one person is so smart and another is so stupid? Or why are there people who are disabled/handicapped in this world. Why are babies stillborn? They don’t even have a chance to defend themselves. If all this happens and your God is so called the God of Love, how can He let this happen?
Personally, I have always maintained that Christ is a just God, and not a fair God. Before you call me a heretic, hear me out first.
I use Romans 9 and Exodus 33v19 as my verses.
The passage basically explains how Esau and Jacob were both sons of Isaac, whom God promised many blessings on. In Malachi, God said that he hated Esau’s lineage and loved Jacob’s lineage. This was predestined before the 2 babies were even born. That is what the bible says.
So you say, but it’s unfair!! How can God do such a thing?!?! Well, Paul explains in Romans 9. Who is man to protest against an all-knowing God? God has the right to do whatever he wants and whatever he sees fit. First and foremost, does man deserve to enter heaven? If you say yes, than God is obliged to save us is it not? Do you mean to say that our entrance to heaven is a debt we have to pay? If you say no, than you recognize that God saves us because of his merciful grace. He didn’t have to, but he chose to. Grace is getting something which you do not deserve.
Bottom line is: God has the right to save those He wishes to save! Man has absolutely no right to say anything nor interfere with God’s business.
Then you tell me: okay, if God chooses who He wants to save, and blesses those he wants to bless than why should I even bother trying if He didn’t choose me in the first place? To make it more applicable to ourselves, person A tells person B that he won’t even bother studying because he knows that he is stupid and will not do well anyway. Sounds illogical right? But its exactly the same.
In Jonah 3v9, the king of Nineveh knew that God was angry and that they would be condemned no matter what they did. But he said “God may not strike in the end and may yet show mercy.” Who knows? God’s mercy is indeed abounding because He is the God of Love. No one knows whether he/she is called for salvation, that is the reason why we must ask for grace and for God’s mercy.
The Christian is often likened to being the clay and Christ, the potter. Will the clay tell the potter what it wants to be?
Think about it. Salvation is of the Lord.
To God be the Glory forever and ever, Amen
