1. My views don’t really matter to the majority of the people.
2. I don’t mean to influence/criticize anyone. So read with this in mind.
For those of you who STILL don’t know (I know Australian newspapers are rubbish), this lady was told by her husband to take her own life so as to save herself the pain. Euthanasia in other words. He encouraged her to kill herself. She eventually died 2 days ago after tolerating this pain for 15 years. In the meantime, Mr. Schiavo had gone and married someone else, and left his sick wife with her parents in Florida. (Mr. Schiavo stayed in Pennsylvania). Then people got to know about this and it became a media frenzy in the States (worldwide eventually).
1. Euthanasia. Mr. Schiavo told his wife her life wasn’t worth living. To me, this is rubbish. So long as there is life in us, meaning we’re breathing, then there IS a meaning to life. God did not create us be solely breathing machines. God has also told us that HE breathes life into us. From dust we were created, and to dust we shall return. Who is man, an insignificant creature, that we should control destiny? That we should take another’s life or encourage him to die. The world condemns people who commit suicide and yet encourages euthanasia?? Incredulous.
2. I am heartened by the fact that a lot of Americans and people globally violently objected. Yes, even though the world we live in is an immensely sinful place. Yet, there are people with a conscience. People willing to make a difference. At least SOME know right from wrong.
3. Mr. Schiavo, to me, is pretty despicable. Who would marry someone and leave him/her alone when he/she is sick? If your friend is sick, you visit him/her in the hospital. BUT THIS IS YOUR WIFE!! Mr. Schiavo, how did you marry your wife? How did you take your wedding vows? With your brain closed? Eyes closed? Heart closed? Ears closed?? There are people out there dying to get married you know? And Mr. Schiavo has the cheek to get married to someone else.
4. Mr. Schiavo left the caring of Mrs. Schiavo to her parents. Bible says once we get married, we LEAVE OUR PARENTS, AND BECOME AS ONE FLESH. That is certainly not what happened in this case. He couldn’t care less. Simple enough. Moreover, he was hostile towards her parents or anyone who wanted to help her. Can you imagine what a monster Mrs. Schiavo married? Is it not SO IMPORTANT to choose carefully who you marry? People say Love is blind. They are wrong. Love is all-knowing. Love is hiding NOTHING from each other. Love is transparent because with love comes trust and friendship. Do not love with your eyes or your hands, but love with your brain and your heart.
5. I have no idea where Mrs. Schiavo is right now (heaven or hell) but I believe that her case has made many people start to think. And that is good and hopefully the sign of better things to come.
We know that God will always have the victory. I sang this hymn at church today. I think the words are wonderful, because even if a Christian were to be in Mrs. Schiavo’s position, he/she is guaranteed a place in heaven because God has conquered death.
See the Conqueror mounts in triumph,
See the King in royal state,
Riding on the clouds His chariot,
To his heavenly palace gate.
Hark! The choirs of angels sing,
Joyful hallelujahs sing,
And the portals high are lifted
To receive their heavenly King.
Who is this who comes in glory,
With the trump of jubilee?
Lord of battles, God of armies,
He has gained the victory,
He who on the cross did suffer,
He who from the grave arose,
He has vanquished sin and Satan,
He by death has spoiled His foes.
He has raised the human nature,
In the clouds to God’s right hand,
There we sit in heavenly places,
There with Him in glory stand,
Jesus resigns, adored by angels,
Man with God is on the throne,
Mighty Lord, in Thine ascension,
We by faith behold our own.
Glory be to God the Father,
Glory be to God the Son,
Dying, risen, ascending for us,
Who the heavenly realm has won,
Glory to the Holy Spirit,
To One God in Persons Three,
Glory both in earth and heaven,
Glory, endless glory be!
Have a blessed Sabbath, Shalom to you all.
